... now they must watch their abundance of luxuries fall away, making room for the tools of survival, and witness this time of relative peace wither into the same fears that harper's ballads had warned them about for generations.

V'nius resisted the urge to duck at the unexpected weight the bluerider rested on his shoulder.  He was holding the lid of the trunk, and didn't want it to slip when Ralestriata hadn't yet moved away, and another classmate was placing his practice blade into the box.  Glowering at Nova past his arm, he was about to ask the other boy to help, but was distracted by the invitation.

"Sneaking out?" the greenrider parroted.  Going to explore the old corridors?  And just their class?  It sounded... fun.  But... they could get in trouble.  "Are you sure we should do that?"  It could be dangerous-- on several levels.  If they were caught, they'd surely be in a load of trouble.  And if they were somewhere no one was supposed to be, that would just add to it.

You should go.  Everyone else is going.

They are?

Ilmattoth's rider just said so.

Oh.  Well, Vinnie supposed Nova had in a way, but at the same time, he hadn't actually said he'd asked everyone else yet...

The greenrider brightened at Raelestriata's addition, though.  "Well... if Tiv goes..."  And he let his answer trail off, for Nova to assume as he would.
