Site PlotsBreakwater Weyr was founded to protect the Western Continent and the riches that had been discovered there. AIVAS was never discovered and the next Pass is due within the next turn. Breakwater is unblooded and dealing with all the problems of a new Weyr... and more.
THE PROBLEMS
The original Weyrwoman has recently stepped down and, despite a successful leadership Flight, there are struggles between the two eldest goldriders. Rumours, snideness, and catty comments echo between them, causing discord within the ranks. Particularly when Halima questions the capability of Weyrwoman Mallari's dragon to clutch another gold dragon and keep her alive.
Western Hold, the newest addition to the Western continent, is also struggling. The Lord Holder died in a freak accident and left no named heir... and two twin boys. Not only that, but their older sister claims that she should become the next leader for the Hold, which is responsible for providing much of the food for the Weyr. After a barn burned down they are asking the Weyrleader to decide who should inherit the Hold, and he knows that at least two siblings are not going to be happy.
The freak accident that killed the Lord Holder has not been the only strange occurance on the Western continent. Rumours have been swirling of a group called the Guardians... but little more is known than their name. No one knows who belongs to the ultra secretive group or why they are beginning to bother Hold, Hall, and Weyr... but the gossip in the underbelly of the Weyr is beginning to mention the Guardians more often than not. Most believe they are a myth, but others believe they are a warning.
The Lord Holder of Hidecreek has become too big for his britches, and he claims, as the first permanent settler on the continent, he should be given priority. And that he should not have to answer to the Weyrleader, except when he wants to. He looks down on all other institutions on the Western continent, looking only for those who will further his power, rather than friends and allies during a Pass.
THE FUTURE
Breakwater knows that it will have to fight Thread for the first time while dealing with these other issues. But Isdeth's leadership clutch sits warming on the sands, a golden shell the brightest hope the Weyr has had in a while. Will this stroke of luck continue, or is it simply a reprieve before the young Weyr falls to pieces?
