Making Amends (Tasha)

Dealing with the aftermath of the flight, how it had affected her in ways she had not expected, had been difficult up to this point. Now came the most difficult of the things she would need to do. It had taken her a couple of days to come to her friend's weyr. Lance did feel badly about what she had said but she never had been good at apologies.

The whole pride thing sort of made apologizing difficult. Although while she was thinking about that, she also realized she was rarely the person who should be apologizing. In this instance Tasha did deserve something from her after the awful things she had said pre-flight.

Drills were over for the day and it would be just about the time when they would leave their own weyrs to go see their friends in the Weyrhall for dinner. Lance wanted to catch Tasha before she left, then they could join their friends having talked and with Lance not having such a guilty conscience.

Knocking about three times, she waited for her friend's answer.

Okay. Dragons never lied. So despite being nervous, Lance would wait for an answer. Obviously this was much easier than having a talk with some of the other people around during her pre-flight craziness and during her flight. She couldn't even imagine bringing it up with some of them. Olivier and R'quiv for instance.

Tashamoretta was attempting to braid her unruly hair when she heard the knock.  The task would have been easier had it been completely wet, instead of just at the edges-- she'd washed up after drills, but hadn't taken the time to completely wash her hair, figuring she'd take a more relaxing bath and do so later.  So of course, now, her dark tresses were being difficult.

"Just a minute!" she finally called, when whoever was on the other side of the door knocked a third time.  Grabbing a tie and heading for the portal, she decided whatever her braid looked like, it was going to have to do for now.  She was just heading to dinner, anyway, and was too tired to worry about impressing anyone, even S'dric.

Much as she wondered just how much of an impression she'd left on him in the aftermath of the flight.

She'd hardly seen the brownrider, so there was no telling.  But she could certainly hope he'd attempt to seek her out, having realized that he did want her, after all.

At least her first flight experience had been enjoyable, though-- she certainly wouldn't mind J'ace paying her further attention, or seeking him out for some fun.  She doubted anything serious would come of it, but it certainly wouldn't lead to any bitterness, either.

Reacing for the door to her weyr, Tasha pulled it open, starting to apologize as she did so.  "Sorry, I was-- Oh, hi."  It was funny how she hadn't really been thinking of what had happened before the flight, even during drills and all, but seeing Lancelle now brought some of what was said back.  Not that she was angry, really-- she knew now it was just all their hormones talking.  But that didn't mean apologies weren't in order.

Hoping to set the tone for whatever either of them had to say, and to ease the seriousness of the moment, the greenrider asked, "You ready for dinner?" as if there wasn't anything strange about the situation.

Not exactly the reception she was expecting, Lance thought, quirking her eyebrow. Well at least she didn't seem upset. "Hey." She said in response to the oh hi. Lance thought about it for a moment, they could talk on the way to the Weyrhall.

"Actually, I thought we could talk before. Just for a couple minutes." She said with a tentative smile. Even if Tasha had not said she was upset, Lance could sense a tension in the air. Raidenth had reassured her earlier she was doing the right thing. They needed what friends they had. Perhaps losing half of their class had made them all a bit closer than average Weyrlings but Lance didn't care what the reasons were. She only knew that she had very few friends and she couldn't afford to lose them over something as silly as her temper pre-flight.

She waited a minute before adding, "I wanted to talk about what happened before the flights."

Tasha took a last glance into her weyr-- mostly making sure she'd actually put Sionnath's harness back where it was supposed to be after removing it from the green after drills-- and then nodded back to her friend.  "Okay."

Talking on the way worked for her.  Not that talking anywhere else wouldn't have, but it did seem to kill two birds with one stone, since they were both already headed for the dining cavern to get food to fill their stomachs after practice.

Nodding in response to Lancelle's next words, Tasha shoved her hands into her pockets.  She should have expected her friend to be as direct as she was, because that was Lance, but it still made things a little awkward.  "Yeah, that was kind of..."  And the greenrider just gave a funny little shrug, because she really didn't know how to describe it.  But surely Lance understood how strange the whole situation had been?  "My reactions just came out of nowhere, though I know that's not an excuse.  I really hope you don't think I meant anything I said."  And she made sure to meet the other girl's eyes, so Lancelle would see how sincere she was being.

Running her hand along the chain of the locket she wore, she allowed Tasha the chance to say what she needed to say. There was no reason why Tasha should be apologizing, in Lance's mind everything that had happened had been her fault. Maybe though, that made it a little easier to admit her own shortcomings.

So with a shake of her head, she said, "Tasha, I meant to talk about my behavior. As you said, you were simply reacting. And despite being pre-flight you actually kept your cool for the most part." Lance knew that it would be a shock to hear an apology come from her own mouth but if she didn't, then she would be a real jerk. As they walked, she did her best not to act nervous. She didn't really apologize, like ever. Most of the time a good argument was kind of thrilling, to the point where she enjoyed it.

"I did not mean any of the things I said. I was unprepared for Raidenth's mood to so severely affect my one. I should never have attacked you verbally." She paused, "I sincerely apologize. You are my friend and I would hate for there to be anything uncomfortable between us because of pre-flight attitudes."

Tasha ran a hand over the back of her neck, the faintest bit sheepish at having slightly misinterpreted.  Though she didn't see it as just Lancelle needing to apologize, no matter what the other greenrider said.  "I appreciate your trying to take all the responsibility, but I am glad you had the guts to bring it up.  Apology completely accepted," and she smiled to show the truth of the statement.

Sure, it was surprising to hear the words come from Lance's mouth, given how well they'd gotten to know each other throughout weyrling training.  But that didn't mean Tasha was going to sit and stare at her, jaw dropped open.  The greenrider figured they would just move on as they always had, with a little awkwardness at first, but something would show them it wasn't worth worrying over soon enough.  The change in the pattern was welcome, and she hoped in the future she would be able to gather the courage to approach her friend in the same way should the situation arise.

"I hope you'll accept mine.  We need all the friends we can get around here, and losing one over some dragon-induced hormone attack would just not be cool, huh?"  She hoped Lance would take the light-hearted attempt positively.
