:: NEW TAG SYSTEM! CHECK THIS OUT! ::

Hey everyone! I wanted to inform everyone on how to use the new Tags system so that its easy to see when you've been tagged in a thread, whether old or new. I know the scrolling thread bar is useful

As you all know, at the top of any page, there is a toolbar at the top of the screen that you can toggle up and down.


In the past, this bar will alert you if you have a new reply to a thread which you are already watching. However, this will not alert you to new threads that you are tagged to that you haven't already begun participating in! As of today however, the toolbar will now notify you of any thread that is tagged with your username on the site, OR any keyword that you want to keep your eyes peeled for, such as a specific character, topic of conversation, etc.

There is also a new area on your user profile that will take you directly to threads tagged with specific keywords or your username (as long as you've made your username a keyword). This should help anyone trying to figure out if they are needed in a thread or not, and which character they received a post for.

Let me show you how!


Let's say that in the hatching feast I have a specific character I'm waiting for a post for but in the mean time know that no one else is posting for me, so I want to be able to track just posts meant for that one character. Or maybe it's a new post I'm expecting, but there are lots of new threads started so I'm not sure which one is the one I need to look at first. So, I need to create keywords to track (and then all my friends posting to me need to be using them, so keep it simple).


First, click on the "profile" link on the nav bar at the top of the homepage.

Then, where there is a secondary navigation bar for your profile options, select the "tags" link (very last one on the far right).

In the text field, enter in your character names or your username, or any other keyword that you want to be able to track for responses. This will create your hash tag keyword so that every time someone uses that keyword with a hash tag, you will be notified.


Then, when a post is made with the hash tag (#) and keyword both in it, you'll receive a notification telling you which keyword was tagged.



Keywords can not only be searched by toolbar notification, but if you go back into your profile and click on the hash tag keyword link on your keyword list you created, it will take you to the list of threads in which that specific keyword was tagged.





Likewise, any username can be tagged without creating a keyword for it, so if you want to notify one person that they were tagged to a thread of some kind, new or old, simply type @personsusernamehere somewhere in the text field, and they will be notified on their toolbar that they have a new tag to a thread that needs their attention. There is also a way to view if your username was tagged by using @yourusername, by going into your profile and selecting the "notifications" link and viewing the bottom of that page, as shown below. This will list all of your notifications so that you don't lose track of recent tags that you would like to respond to.



If you click the X on the toolbar to remove that notification from the toolbar however, the notification is also deleted from the "notifications" page on your user profile, so I would suggest if you want to use this as a way to keep track of which threads you Have NOT YET replied to, but don't want to lose track of, then don't be tempted to click the red X, and let it sit in your notifications.


Then all you have to do is go to your "profile"->"notifications", and at the bottom of that page, you'll always have a list of ones you need to work on next, without having to search the scrolling bar or any other pages for it. When you're done replying, delete it from your notifications.



Note: If there is a username with a space or special characters, you must add " " After the @ and at the end of the name

i.e.  @sixth gun

[I believe this only applies to the usernames using the @, not the created keywords list.]

Limitations: It won't work for all usernames

Some example that won't work

@test@sd.com
@<3Sylverangel<3
@#Sylverangel (# Hashtag will be taken into account not @)
@ won't be taken into account inside code




Well, I hope that this tool is useful to everyone! Please reply to this thread if you have questions about it; that way everyone can see the questions and responses.

Also, personally, I'd suggest that everyone create a tags list with their character names and then if anyone does a post for a specific character, everyone just start adding @username or #charactername to the post somewhere so that the player knows the notification is for that character.

Perhaps you should make a hashtag for your pseudonym? @Marc ftw

If it comes to it, I'm going to see if there's a way I can set up a 'group' @ tag so that if there's a thread that requires all members like a Hatching or something, then we can just @groupname. But.. let's see how it ends up working out with this much, first.

I already added one for Marc.

ookay I am now under the impression that the hashtag keyword list works similarly as usernames with special characters, so if you have a dragonrider please put their name with the honorific form including the apostrophe, and we'll be using the #"n'ame" to tag that character.  

err... if for some reason that's wrong we'll just have to drop the " " later.  But as a general rule, please for dragonriders, use the apostrophied form so that it's uniform amoungst those characters.

A group tag would be nice, if it works... I need to go make filters for all my characters now...

Maybe everyone make a tag for groups they know they are a part of? Example: follow the tag poetryofair for the poetry of air weyrlings? i dunno >.>

let me look into how to do groups for this. I'll post here again when i find out if tha'ts possible. Unfortunately, Im not sure that'll be until later this coming week. I have tons of things keeping me really busy until then, for school. >< But I will do my best to get to it asap.

Yeah, I think that would work, Slasher. You just have to know what tag to follow, but it's no different than adding your own character as a tag you're watching for, then! It just means people have to do know what those are-- do we have a way to show all the possible tags, JQ?

Just for the record, this doesn't work.
I tried it but it just broke the hashtag. So I just made tags for my honorific riders without the ' in their name because it works the same way.

yah I've been doing my riders without hashtags ,too. And i'll be getting back to you guys today about group hashtags whether or not i can set them up to work.
