Chance Encounters. Enjoying the Fine Weather. Changhuibanner2_zps4f1d3f1f

Striking out on his own that morning with Haran, Changhui had refused to take a larger entourage even though Lady Sienne had urged him to do so. Now that they were in Keroon there was additional fear of being found out, and the Dragon's Venture would need to take additional precautions to ensure the success of their mission. They were within the territory of the enemy they were hunting, and one wrong move could prove disastrous. But, regardless of Sienne's fears, she could not go against his wish.

Lady Sienne nor Changhui however, had made his identity known to anyone in Keroon yet. Even those who had once supported his father -and still might be willing to serve in that memory- had been left in the dark. But soon. Soon would be the time. The time was almost upon them. And then they would all know -even his elder brother, the Lord Holder.

Today was not that day though, and Changhui still walked through the streets of Keroon Hold as the Young Master of a trade group. He still would be for a while.

This morning, Changhui had overseen the loading of Runners and a few crates onto the trade ship Dragon's Reach, but now that his part was done, the young man had decided to enjoy the nice weather. The humidity wasn't too high and the cool autumn breeze was refreshing, so he and Haran removed themselves from the others, taking to the streets filled with weekend vendor stalls and gather goers.

"Is there something I can help you look for?" Haran asked, always taking an interest in how he could assist Changhui.

"No." The Young Master's voice rose quietly, strolling through the crowds with hands clasped at the small of his back as they passed slowly in front of a number of stalls whose counters were laid out with various wares. Changhui's eyes idly inspected them, though he asserted just as calmly to his friend, "I'm not looking for anything. But the weather is nice. I want to enjoy it."

His Guard's attention lifted skyward for a moment, as though for the first time taking notice of what a fine day it was turning out to be before responding agreeably. "Of course."

The day was beautiful. The breeze was soft against her face. Her hair was still slightly damp from her early morning cliff dive she had managed to sneak in. Now she was at the market place with a pleasant task. She was looking for fabric for a new dress.

Not just any dress though. This one would be for a wedding. No, not hers. But it was a chance to get pretty all the same. Maori did have an adventurous spirit, this was true. But she also had a gentle, feminine side about her too. One that appreciated pretty things.

She was even now softly caressing a soft green fabric that reminded her of newborn grass in springtime. It was woven very nicely. The quality was good and the subtle design would be very nice for the bodice work. Or...perhaps a darker green would do well for the bodice and a lighter color for the over skirt would be best? She could not make up her mind.

She was at the market by herself today, wearing a simple dress of good quality. As always, her dagger was tied to her thigh out of sight. Just in case.

As the vendor was praising the work of the fabric she had touched, Maori's eyes lifted in a kind smile to the man but something caught her eye off to the side. Turning her head slightly so as not to be obvious, she took a peek and then froze.

Young Master?

She immediately felt her cheeks flush. Did she have a liking for him? Yes. Would it ever be reciprocated? Probably not. But it didn't mean she had to avoid him altogether, right? But it was not proper for her to approach a man in public.

Proper etiquette warred with her desire to hear his voice again and see his eyes look into her own. She did nothing though. Perhaps he did not wish to bother with her. So, with a mental sigh for propriety, she turned her quick glance back to the vendor and nodded amiably.

"Yes, I do like the softness. It feels durable but...." She began to haggle the price of the fabric that she had looked at. She had decided. Yes, it would look very pretty. Maori began to wonder if Changhui would like it. Then just as quickly she put that thought out of her head and sighed slightly. He was probably gone by now.

Paying for the fabric, she waited for the vendor to wrap it up and hand it to her. Taking the small package into her arms, she smiled her kind thanks and turned away from the stall. She still had more shopping to do.

Always watchful for the sake of his young master's safety, Haran noticed the crafter's daughter, Maori, first. Haran had been standing a couple of steps behind Changhui, looking alert as ever, so when he saw the girl, the guard nodded a quick greeting.

Figuring that Changhui would want to know of her arrival since he seemed to take a liking to the girl -at least to some degree- Haran didn't wait for his master to look up from the stall's wares to see her. So, stepping closer, he brought it to the young man's attention.

In the next breath, Changhui was glancing up to see her, just as Maori was paying for the cloth.

Upon seeing her there, Changhui's boyish smile lit his face up with his own brand of personal charm. He felt a bit embarrassed at having been so absorbed in his own thoughts that he hadn't heard or seen her there already. The expression left him appearing a little shy perhaps.

"We meet again." Facing the girl more fully, Changhui's hands clasped at the small of his back. Eyeing the parcel curiously which the weaver handed over to her, he wondered aloud for the sake of conversation, "Is the fabric for yourself? It seems that it would make a lovely dress."

The colors were pleasant and befitting of springtime; he could easily imagine a shawl, brooch or hair adornment in shades of pink and pearl to go with it.

Oh goodness. He noticed. And his smile was so... And he noticed the beauty of her purchase. And his eyes....

Coming to her senses after Changhui addressed her, Maori inclined her head to him politely and with a soft color to her cheeks she replied kindly, "Young Master. It is good to see you again. And you too Haran."

Yes she did remember both of their names. Well, the names she had been given. She was still curious about what Young Master's name was but she had never pried into the matter as she had previously teased that she would. If he wanted her to know, he would tell her. Until that time came, if it ever came, Maori would treat him with respect and call him what he wished, though it did make her a little sad.

"Yes," She answered his question. "The fabric is for myself. It will be a dress for the wedding coming soon. ...Have you come to attend?" Maori wanted to add that she had missed him but that, of course, would not have been proper so she refrained. For now.

Haran had become suddenly sheepish when faced with Maori's greeting. The man thought it was certainly nice of her to think highly enough of him to address him by name in such a polite way.

The guard, with head still half-turned away from the lady, had taken a step back from Changhui to continue keeping himself on the lookout, while the other young man moved ahead to bespeak her.

Changhui was still softly smiling as Maori filled him in on her intentions for the fabric she'd just bought. Her mannerisms, the way she comported herself, were always cute, even if she never intended it to be that way. He hadn't consciously realized he thought that way perhaps, but he was more easily distracted by her presence than anything else.

At the first mention of weddings, Changhui had to stop and think. His eyes traced a sidelong path that communicated his thought process, contemplating over weddings he'd heard of recently. Of course, it didn't take long for him to realize that it was the wedding of the Keroon Lord Holder and his betrothed that she referred to.

Thinking about the grand affair sobered him, and that too, may have been faintly apparent upon his expression. When his eyes met hers again though, he seemed only as serious as usual; it wasn't as though his half-brother's wedding would put him in a foul mood -even if he wanted nothing more at that moment than to put it to a stop. He'd already spoken with Lady Sienne about what might happen if Lord Izayan's wife bore him an heir before the Dragon's Venture could depose him, and the notion of the new, soon-to-be Lady Holder becoming pregnant in any near future did not sit well with him.

To ensure that he was not noticeably irritated in light of the news of a Lord Holder's wedding, Changhui let his next breath be a deep and calming one, releasing his tension through it.

"Are you speaking of the Lord Holder's engagement party that is coming up soon? I've heard they may put off the wedding for another few months to continue the preparations. The Dragon's Venture is happy to gift them with a couple of young Runners bred for racing, since that is the focus of our Trade and Racing is one of the Lord Holder's pastimes, I hear. From what I hear, it is a Runner Race they are hosting as the main event of the engagement party."

The young master seemed well informed, indeed, but it could have been explained by circulating rumouors. There was a lot of word on the street beginning to spread over the excitement of the engagement celebrations.
