Did you rest at all?The Queen's voice reverberated in the sleep depraved mind of the Weyrwoman. No. There are too many things to be done and I don't feel tired. Karene was beyond tired. Tired was what she felt last night at this point she was operating on pure nerve and not on anything resembling sleep or food. The thought of which made her stomach ache once more. The leech inside of her was hungry too. I think you mean baby. The baby needs food...be careful. Galadrieth's concern was echoed in the dullness of her hide. She didn't like her rider pushing herself like this. Sometimes she needed to be reminded that she could not do it all herself, that she needed help, that she was in fact, human. "I have to go and meet with the Headwoman. Straight after I promise I will go and eat something."

Good. And after that you will delegate a few tasks to Belisse, the Weyrleader and you can send N'lyr to check on the new Weyr, while you rest.
Okay, okay... all of that as well.
Promise?
I promise.

The Headwoman met with Karene at the beginning of the day at the beginning of every sevenday although more when there were serious issues going on. They had worked out a system which benefited both women and though Karene was difficult for some to get along with, she had always done her duty to a standard that would exceed most expectations except for her own. The meeting that morning began with pleasant exchanges of how are you and good to see you.

As the meeting progressed it was clear that Karene had not been sleeping well, if she was sleeping at all. There had been very few occasions for anyone to butt their heads in the Weyrwoman's business and perhaps had there been no consequence to sleep deprivation no one would have meddled now.

They were nearly done with their meeting when Karene began to stand up, wobbled on her feet and lost consciousness.

The Headwoman immediately sent for Belisse to meet with her as well as had some drudges begi to take Karene to the infirmary. When Karene regained consciousness she was laying on an infirmary cot, not at all happy about the bump on her head or the fact that she now had no choice but to do as her dragon had requested earlier.

Her light blue gaze was on the ceiling overhead, as her ears listened out for familiar voices. The only one who knew she was awake at first was the one who was bonded to her.Oh Karene, you are awake.I am glad. The dragon's voice was only full of concern. Galadrieth always knew what the right thing to say was. If she had been reproachful Karene would have shut her out.

Soon Galadrieth wasn't the only one to notice that Karene was back among the living.

What the healer orders (Jang) Jahng6_zpsf42cd672

Hearing a stir from the side of the room where the Weyrwoman's infirmary bed had been partitioned off to allow some privacy, Jang looked up from where he'd been entering notes into a research log. Setting his writing utensil down, the Senior Journeyman Healer

The man usually had a gentle manner about him, using an assuaging tone to address most of his patients, as he did now. Though his words were in reprimand, his mouth pulled into a good-humoured grin. "I'm very glad to see you awake. Weyrwoman Karene, how are you feeling?"

He took her arm, turning Karene's palm to the ceiling so that he could take her pulse and begin a quick evaluation of her condition. "You know, of all the patients I trust to know a thing or two about pregnancy, it is you who I am faced with the dilemma of knowing just how to admonish for not taking better care of herself." The Healer chuckled, glancing up from where he soon began feeling on her abdomen, placing pressure in certain areas to see if there was any pain, or if he could find anything abnormal with her pregnancy.

"How should I tell you then, that I expected more from the Weyrwoman?" For the briefest moment, he seemed to look to her for an answer, though that question might just as well have been rhetorical. "You certainly know how to make things hard on yourself. That worries me. I wish that you would be more cautious about your health. If not for the baby, then for all of us. It is you and Galadrieth we rely so much on." Jang's expression was almost a bit plaintive as he fell silent again, focused on his examination of her. But, his smile was a glad one, and not finding anything out of place, relief flooded over him.

Jang wondered if perhaps it was the Weyrwoman's depth of experience which backfired and, instead of teaching her the proper cautions, had made her over-confident that whatever happened, everything would turn out as well as prior pregnancies. He hated to see that happen; yet, Karene was already a very confident type. He could appreciate that in anyone -except when it got the better of them. And in this case, she was putting too much pressure on herself.

The Senior Healer was not blind to the fact that Karene had made it so that the Weyr was almost solely dependent on her for its leadership. He understood it was also the fault of the Weyrleader, but Karene had done well to diminish the Weyrleadershp role, putting much of the weight of that role onto herself and those few she trusted implicitly. The added stress was not doing her much good at present, and Jang did not necessarily have thoughts on the matter of Weyr leadership one way or another, but it pained him to see her in such a state -especially when she'd made Fort Weyr so reliant on her. She owed it to the Dragonriders to keep herself in better shape.

After a moment, Jang sat back to listen to her and then he shared, "Well, it seems as though everything is fine except for that bump on your head. However, it will be a few days until I can allow you to leave here. I would like to keep you on bed rest so that you may recover your strength. It seems you're also a bit dehydrated, so I'll make sure the kitchen staff take extra care over feeding you and making sure you are taking in enough fluids.

"And rest assured, there is no need to worry about your duties going unattended. I hear from the Headwoman that Belisse has done nicely stepping up to cover for your absence in this time. Granted that, I can't help but think it makes for a perfect opportunity to see how she'll perform as a Weyrwoman at Igen." That thought seemed to please him. It would be an exciting day indeed, when Igen was repopulated with a full Weyr of Dragons and their Riders. Anyway, hopefully that answer would make sense to her, and temper her anger at it all -seeing as though even this very down time might be filled with some greater purpose to her.

Oh dear, she had gotten herself into a predicament. Ergh. Healers. It was not so much that she despised them or their purpose but she never liked when someone assumed any sort of authority over her or what she could or could not do. She had always had problems with authority. No matter what she said the healer already had it in his head she was being unhealthy.

"I was really hoping I had aged out of the baby making business." She sighed, "Really this could not have come at a worse time." she would not abort the pregnancy when she should have though. Not only for her health but for the baby's because Andris wanted another child so badly and it might be her last chance to give him one.
Karene's eyebrow raised and not in a good way. She didn't like being talked to like a child. Being told what she could and could not do, how she should be taking care of herself, that she was putting too much on herself. What did he know about leading a Weyr? Nothing. Absolutely nothing. Belisse being in charge did not reassure her one iota. With Jeneveth near to clutching it seemed to Karene that Belisse would be distracted by that and be guided not by K'thane who would potentially give her better advice but by Sh'nar who was young and cocky and should not be trusted with anything at Fort.

Her inner fuming died down before she opened her mouth to say anything. She had been working on her anger for a long time now and knew better than to negotiate with a tone that suggested she might be upset. Instead, her diplomatic nature gave way, "I'm afraid I cannot be kept here for bed rest. It is completely inconvenient to me and my dragon and anyone else who might want a word with me in private. I request to be placed on bed rest in my own weyr with my own things. If you need to send someone to check on me that is fine or if you would like someone to vouch for me we can do that as well. I still need to be there to support the Weyr, you must understand this." She looked at him as serious as she could possibly be. "I am a complete control freak and not being in charge is going to make me so crazy that I'm likely to do more harm to myself in here than I was earlier..." Honesty was the best policy wasn't it?

Galadrieth who on occasion bespoke humans other than her rider but generally did not burden those without dragons with hearing a dragon's voice as it was  a lot for them to handle did this time speak to Jang. Unlike Hatchlings, she had good control over her tone and volume. Galadrieth's voice was one of the more impressive things about her, it was at once commanding, beautiful and serene.

My apologies if this is the first time a dragon as spoken to you. I know it can be a shock but please, allow me to speak to you this once on Karene's behalf. If I may young Healer, my rider is quite stubborn but I can see that she is watched at all times. If anything should happen, and you consent to allowing me to bespeak you again I can inform you. It will be faster than any other method. If we allow her this, she is more likely to rest longer. If she is forced to stay here, she will leave the first chance she has. We all know how determined and intelligent my rider is. She sill not stop till she has what she wants. It has always been so.

PostSubject: Re: What the healer orders (Jang)   What the healer orders (Jang) I_icon32Sun Jun 16, 2013 7:07 pm

Jang could imagine the upset he'd caused in her mind, though he felt he'd done everything he could so try and assuage her while still meeting the Weyr's needs. Of course, the things he spoke of were only first on his list. Jang had learned to have back up plans when it came to trying to meet health needs while at the same time catering to other personal particulars. Especially when it came to the highborn. Those born to a lower societal stature didn't make nearly as many demands; nor did they often attach sometimes unreasonable stipulations to their healthcare needs.

Inwardly, the Sr. Healer sighed, but after Karene shared her thoughts, he smiled. He was glad that she would at least consider bed rest within her own weyr. The fact that she was the first to bring it up only meant that the Weyrwoman would feel more in control of her situation, which would make it all the easier to get along with Karene.

He'd opened his mouth to speak when the Queen gave her own input. Of course, the splendid voice caught him off guard at first. He hadn't heard anyone come in, so Jang turned his head over one shoulder, seeming a little surprised. Even more surprised when no one was there, yet the voice continued talking.

He was sure that Karene could guess at the curious nature of his behaviour; he was thrilled to have the chance to have a dragon's voice grace his mind. And not just any dragon.

The full extent of the Healer's reaction was parlayed by his intent focus on what Galadrieth was saying. By the end of her polite speech, Jang was laughing in utter delight. "Of course. That will work fine. I can't say I expected the Weyrwoman to be so willing to give up so much of her time to doing anything but rest."

Jang didn't know how to thank Galadrieth, but he appreciated her willingness to help. "I will send someone to check on you and the baby every couple of days. If you would, please have Galadrieth keep me informed with any other updates if you aren't feeling well or don't seem to be getting your energy back by the end of the sevenday."
